The Let the People Sing production is part of the Minack Theatre’s loaded season – though do not attempt to go and see it if you don’t have tickets!
An open-air staging of Les Misérables is taking place in Cornwall, and photos have been released.
To mark the 40th anniversary of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s mega-musical, 11 community-wide amateur productions of Les Misérables: Let The People Sing are happening across the UK this year.
The Minack Theatre in Porthcurno is one of the venues taking part in the new initiative from Cameron Mackintosh and Music Theatre International (MTI), and sees the piece staged outside, in their unique theatre constructed above a gully.
Already sold-out, it is presented by Helston Theatre Company, Redruth Amateur Musical and Pantomime Society, St Austell Amateur Operatic Society, and Truro Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. However, other amateur productions are taking place up until August, with chances to see the theatre project in Nottingham, Birmingham, Norwich, Liverpool, Swansea, Bristol, and Brighton.
If these photos of Les Misérables under the “Stars” have piqued your interest, sadly you won’t be able to see the show live unless you’ve already bought tickets – the venue is stating there is no point travelling to the Minack this week without an existing booking. There are, however, a multitude of titles coming up at the Minack this summer!
They include productions of Treasure Island, Twelfth Night, Pirates of the Carabina, The Wind in the Willows, The Pirate Queen, Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, Pearl o’Wisdom, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Shakespeare in Love, The Who’s Tommy, Hamlet, Moby Dick, Macbeth, Making a Killing and many more. Additionally, there are various guided tours, music concerts, and the Proms.
