A Christmas Carol will play a season at the Lowry in Salford in addition to its tenth festive season at the Old Vic.
Matthew Warchus’ production, adapted by Jack Thorne, has played to almost half a million people in London over the last decade. It has also been staged in America and Australia, and has been streamed into homes, but this marks the first time that A Christmas Carol will have played in another UK city.
In London, where Warchus is artistic director of the Old Vic, the production has raised £2.2million for food deprivation charities.
Warchus said that he is “immensely proud of the impact it continues to have on audiences – whether it be their first time seeing the show or one visit of many,” adding, “To now be able to share the joy of this production with the Lowry and its audiences makes this year a truly special one.”
Lowry’s chief executive, Julia Fawcett, commented that the production is: “…One of the most exciting, joyous and moving Christmas productions you’ll ever see,” and called the occasion “a real landmark moment for theatre in the region.”
