Nicola Walker, Maggie Steed and Alun Armstrong to star in The Cane at Royal Court

Casting has been announced for Mark Ravenhill's upcoming new play The Cane.

Maggie Steed, Nicola Walker and Alun Armstrong are to star in the production, which is to be directed by Vicky Featherstone with design from Chloe Lamford and lighting by Natasha Chivers. It runs from 6 December.

The piece follows Edward, who is retiring after 45 years as a teacher, but his home is under siege as angry students gather outside his house.

Ravenhill's work for the Royal Court Shopping and F**king, Product, Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat and Over There.

Steed is currently starring in Pinter One at the Harold Pinter, while Walker has been seen most recently in TV series Unforgotten and The Split. She also starred in Ivo van Hove's A View from the Bridge. Armstrong has starred in Exit the King at the Theatre Royal Bath and The Royal Hunt of the Sun at the National Theatre.
