The West End capture of Next to Normal will be made available to stream from next month.

The show centres on Diana Goodman, a suburban mother living with bipolar disorder, and explores themes of mental illness, family dynamics and grief.

The new streaming plans of the hit revival follow the digital and streaming release of Next to Normal: Original London Cast Recording from Ghostlight Records, which is available to listen to now.

It will be available from 2 December via the National Theatre at Home streaming platform. It won’t be available to US users.

Filmed at Wyndham’s Theatre during its 2024 run, the captured version features the London cast from the Donmar Warehouse and Wyndham’s Theatre productions, including Caissie Levy, Jamie Parker, Jack Wolfe, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Trevor Dion Nicholas and Jack Ofrecio. The production was directed for the screen by Michael Longhurst and Austin Shaw, and filmed by Liberator Film Services.

The musical, which features music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, originally premiered on Broadway in 2010 and received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and three Tony Awards. Its London staging, directed by Longhurst, was nominated for six WhatsOnStage Awards including Best New Musical, with Wolfe going on to win for his performance.

Following its West End run at Wyndham’s Theatre from 18 June to 21 September 2024, Next to Normal was recorded for broadcast and was first screened in the United States on PBS’s Great Performances series in May 2025.

The creative team comprises musical supervisor Nigel Lilley, designer Chloe Lamford, movement and additional direction by Ann Yee, lighting designer Lee Curran, sound designer Tony Gayle, video designer Tal Rosner, casting director Anna Cooper, orchestrators Michael Starobin and Kitt, musical director Nick Barstow, vocal arranger AnnMarie Milazzo and production manager Chris Hay.

Carolyn Maitland, Ben Heathcote, Jake Reynolds and Lizzy Parker completed the London cast as standbys.

The film is a Liberator Film Services presentation of the David Stone and Donmar Warehouse production and is produced by David Stone, Aaron Glick and Austin Shaw. Executive producers are David Horn and Bill O’Donnell. Editing is by Egli Keli and the supervising sound editor is Tim Clark.

The show was screened in UK cinemas in September 2025.

Separately, the regional premiere of Next to Normal next year was announced recently.
