The show just won an Olivier Award
The award-winning production of Newsies has announced new cast members who will join the troupe at London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.
These new additions will join the already talented cast members, including Michael Ahomka-Lindsay as Jack Kelly, Moya Angela as Medda Larkin, and Bronté Barbé as Katherine Plumber.
Newsies tells the story of a group of newsboys who band together to protest against the unfair working conditions they face at the hands of their employers. Set in turn-of-the-century New York, the show is based on the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 and features a score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, with a book by Harvey Fierstein. The show’s director and choreographer, Matt Cole, recently won the 2023 Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreographer.
The new cast members are Spencer Darlaston-Jones as Romeo, Morgan Gregory as Swing, Mireia Mambo as Ensemble, Forbes Masson as Joseph Pulitzer, Kai Oxley as Swing, Bradley Perret as Elmer, Owen Stringer as Oscar Delancey, Lucy Young as Swing, and Ben Dalton and Harry Newby as Les. They are set to join the production on 19 April 2023.
Newsies received a full five-star review from WhatsOnStage, being described as “bombastic and balletic”.

Directed and choreographed by Cole, Newsies has set design by Morgan Large, musical supervision, new dance arrangements and musical direction by Nigel Lilley, costumes by Natalie Pryce, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound by Tony Gayle, new orchestrations by Simon Hale, performer flying by John Maddox for Suspended Illusions Ltd, casting by Lucy Casson, children’s casting by Jo Hawes, fight directors Rachel Bown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown for RC Annie, associate director Rachael Nanyonjo, associate choreographer Jane McMurtrie, associate musical director Chris Ma, and production management by Lee Batty and Andy Fox for Setting Line.
The London production of Newsies is confirmed to end on 30 July 2023, making it a limited engagement.
