Disney has released the first trailer and poster for its live-action version of Moana, featuring Catherine Lagaʻaia in the title role and Dwayne Johnson returning as demigod Maui, concluding with Lagaʻaia singing “I Am Moana.”

The cast also includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala. The film follows Moana as she leaves her island for the first time, teaming up with Maui to help her community.

It is directed by Thomas Kail, with Johnson among the producers and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who penned the tunes for the original film, also listed as a producer. The original Moana, Auliʻi Cravalho, serves as an executive producer.

The film will be released in cinemas in July 2026.
