Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Long Day's Journey into Night opened in the West End last night after its initial run at Bristol Old Vic. Directed by Richard Eyre and starring screen legend Jeremy Irons and 2018 Oscar nominee Lesley Manville, the piece follows a dysfunctional family beset with addiction.

In our review of the transfer, critic Sarah Crompton described the piece as "utterly devastating", stating that Irons was the "image of repression and self-doubt" and "there is no one as good as Manville at suggesting abiding sorrow".

Famous names including Gemma Arterton, Jessica Swale and Sinead Cusack all joined the cast and creative team to celebrate the show's opening night.

Long Day's Journey Into Night runs at Wyndham's Theatre until 8 April.
