Further casting has been set for the new version of Henrik Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea at the Bridge Theatre this autumn, adapted and directed by Simon Stone.

Originally written by Ibsen in 1888, The Lady from the Sea explores themes of choice, commitment and personal freedom. It follows Ellida, a woman reassessing her place in a marriage to a doctor, Edward. The play follows Ellida’s confrontation with a former lover and the life she might have led had she chosen differently.

As already revealed, Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln will star as Ellida and Edward respectively, while joining them are Isobel Akuwudike as Hilda, Joe Alwyn as Heath, Brendan Cowell as Finn Marcet, John Macmillan as Lyle, and Gracie Oddie-James as Asa.

The production opens on 18 September 2025, with previews from 10 September. It will run for nine weeks until 8 November. Presented by London Theatre Company in collaboration with Wouter van Ransbeek, this marks Stone’s debut at the Bridge. Also attached are set designer Lizzie Clachan (The Witches), costume designer Mel Page (Phaedra), composition and sound designer Stefan Gregory (Yerma), lighting designer Nick Schlieper (The Picture of Dorian Gray) casting director Jessica Ronane (Stranger Things: The First Shadow) and assistant designer Pip Terry (The Time Traveller’s Wife).

Further casting will be announced in due course.
