The actor and comedian will lead the cast in Hannah Chissick’s production
Josie Lawrence will lead a new production of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children at Southwark Playhouse in November.
The actor and comedian will star in Tony Kushner's (Angels in America) adaptation of Brecht's 1939 play, set during the Thirty Years War.
On being cast in the show Lawrence said: "I first read Mother Courage when I was an 18-year-old drama student and immediately fell in love with the play. Now I feel ready to play her. It’s a major tick on my theatrical bucket list."
Best known for TV appearances in Whose Line Is It Anyway?, EastEnders and Humans, Lawrence's theatre credits include Picasso’s Women, The Alchemist (NT), The King and I (London Palladium) and Acorn Antiques The Musical (Haymarket).
Produced by Danielle Tarento (Grey Gardens, Titanic), Mother Courage will be directed by Hannah Chissick (Side Show), with design by Barney George. Further casting to be announced.
Mother Courage and Her Children runs at Southwark Playhouse from 6 November to 9 December, with previews from 2 November.
