Florence Lace-Evans, writer, producer, and performer of Yes, We’re Related, has shared her insider tips on where to visit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

This year, she’s bringing her award-winning dark comedy to Underbelly Cowgate. Blending absurdity with emotional truth, the show explores loss, family tension, and the strange ways that we cope with heartbreak. A hilariously honest examination of grief, it centres on the dynamics of two sisters and the unlikely relationship with a red squirrel called Gerald.

Cameo Picturehouse

It’s one of Edinburgh’s oldest cinemas, and with super cosy seats, it’s my favourite place during Fringe to get away from the buzz of the festival. Plus, it’s located close to the Meadows, which is a prime location for flyering and Edinburgh outdoor posters, so keep an eye out for Yes, We’re Related posters in the area!

Alby’s Big Hot Sandwiches

Yes, We’re Related is a really high-energy show, and I’m on stage for the whole performance, so I’m always hungry post-show. My go-to lunch at the Fringe is from the independent sandwich shop, Alby’s, where you are served doorstop-sized sandwiches with delicious fillings. Plus, I only found out recently you can order it in advance to take away!

Doodles

If you’re ever needing a fun afternoon or evening to unwind, Doodles is a paint-your-own pottery studio that is open late some evenings. It’s even BYOB!

Armchair Books

A really special place for me in Edinburgh is the incredible, quirky second-hand bookshop, Armchair Books. The first time I visited was when I was visiting and my friend who studied at Edinburgh University at the time, talked about how a lot of Edinburgh Fringe Playscripts are also sold there. It will definitely be one of my top places to go this year, especially as my play, Yes, We’re Related, is being published by CNC Books!

The Sheep Heid Inn

If you’re ever thinking of climbing Arthur’s Seat, you have to go to Edinburgh’s oldest pub, the Sheep Heid Inn. The food is all great, but the sticky toffee pudding is the star of the show. I have since read that there have been a few famous visitors to the pub, including Mary Queen of Scots, Queen Elizabeth II… and Kelly Clarkson.

Yes, We’re Related plays at Underbelly Cowgate (Big Belly) from Thursday 31 July to Sunday 24 August (not 11th) at 14:00
