Broadway will welcome the first-ever newly directed and choreographed Broadway revival of Dreamgirls next year.
With book and lyrics by Tony winner Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, Dreamgirls follows girl group The Dreams on their rise to success in the music world. The original musical, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, winning six; a film adaptation in 2006 won an Oscar for Jennifer Hudson.
It includes songs such as “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “One Night Only.”
Five-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown will helm this new production.
Dreamgirls was last seen in the West End from 2016 to 2019.
Producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, and LaChanze Productions revealed that to cast the three central roles of The Dreams, the production will hold auditions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, London, Toronto, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Rome and Paris.
More details are expected to follow.
