Digital Theatre, sponsor of the Whatsonstage.com Awards, has announced its latest production released for download: last summer’s acclaimed West End revival of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. The production, which starred previous Whatsonstage.com Award-winning actor David Suchet and Laurie Metcalf at the Apollo Theatre, was nominated in Whatsonstage.com Awards for Best Play Revival, and has just received the same nod in this year’s Olivier Awards.
The full production is now available from Digital Theatre’s website, and can be watched online, on your desktop, with Samsung Smart TV or through Digital Theatre’s updated iOS app for iPhone, iPad or iPad touch.
Suchet and Metcalf are joined in the cast by Trevor White as Jamie, Kyle Soller as Edmund and Rosie Sansom as Cathleen. The production is directed by Tony Award-winner Anthony Page with design by Lez Brotherston.
Long Day’s Journey into Night marks Digital Theatre’s second collaboration with independent production company Stanhope Productions and is the second Digital Theatre release to star David Suchet. It follows the filming of All My Sons during its sell-out 2010 West End revival, for which Suchet received his Whatsonstage.com Award.
Digital Theatre, launched in 2009 by Robert Delamere and Tom Shaw, works in partnership with Britain’s leading theatre companies to capture live performance authentically onscreen. Using multiple camera angles and high-definition technology, they bring the drama and emotion of live performance to a global online audience. Each production is available to rent online for a limited period or to download from www.digitaltheatre.com.
Other productions currently available for download include: em>A Doll’s House (Young Vic) starring Hattie Morahan, which also figured in this year’s Olivier and Whatsonstage.com Awards shortlists, King Lear (Almeida), <Into the Woods (Open Air Regent’s Park) and Much Ado About Nothing (West End).
