The stage adaptation of David Walliams' children's novel Gangsta Granny received its West End premiere at the Garrick Theatre yesterday, and the TV funnyman was on hand to help the cast celebrate.

The book, about a boy who gets into mischief while staying with his Granny, has illustrations by Tony Ross and was published in 2011. It was later made into a TV film broadcast on BBC One in 2013. The West End cast includes Ashley Cousins as Ben and Gilly Tompkins as Granny.

Following a successful UK tour, Neal Foster's production was nominated for a UK Theatre Award last year.

Gangsta Granny runs at the Garrick Theatre until 3 September
