The production marks the 20th year of the Globe’s Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank education programme. Each year the initiative provides more than 26,000 free tickets to pupils aged 11 to 16 from non-selective state secondary schools in London and Birmingham to attend a 90-minute Shakespeare production at the Globe Theatre. The project also offers subsidised tickets to schools nationwide alongside CPD sessions, student workshops and learning resources. Schools’ performances will take place from 26 February to 25 March.
The programme has provided free tickets to 333,648 pupils from London and Birmingham state secondary schools. A further 65,000 students have attended through subsidised tickets. The programme has also delivered more than 2,200 workshops for over 55,000 students and more than 100 CPD sessions for over 2,500 teachers.
Alongside the production, Shakespeare’s Globe will present family workshops linked to Romeo and Juliet. Sessions for children aged nine to 11 and 12 to 14 will use interactive activities to explore the play’s language, characters and themes. The workshops will run during the Easter half term and can be combined with attendance at the production or a guided tour of the theatre.
