Paulette Randall’s production is the award-winning play’s first major revival
Casting has been announced for Paulette Randall's upcoming revival of Mustapha Matura's 1974 play Play Mas, which runs at the Orange Tree Theatre from 11 March to 11 April 2015.
The cast will feature: Lori Barker, Llewella Gideon, Kevin N Golding, Rob Heanley, Melanie La Barrie, David Monteith, Johann Myers, Kirris Riviere, Victor Romero Evans and Seun Shote.
Play Mas is set in 1950s Port of Spain, where Samuel (Shote), a young tailor's assistant, dreams of Trinidad's independence. The play won the Evening Standard Award for Best Play when it premiered at the Royal Court and then transferred to the West End.
Matura is the multi-award winning writer of Rum 'an Coca Cola, Playboy of the Western Indies and The Coup.
Director Randall was the West End's first female black director with August Wilson's Fences starring Lenny Henry. She was associate director of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony and formerly artistic director of Talawa.
