Cast announced for Papatango Prize-winner Orca

Matt Grinter’s play was handpicked from 1053 submissions and will run at Southwark Playhouse

Full casting has been announced for Matt Grinter's Orca – the winning entry of the 8th annual Papatango New Writing Prize.

The play is set in the village of Midsummer, where the villagers must pick a girl to travel with their fishing boats to keep them from the threat of orcas in the sea. Fan wants to be the one chosen, but her older sister is adamant that she must never go with the boats.

Alice Hamilton (co-artistic director of theatre company Up in Arms) will direct Carla Langley (Future Conditional) as Fan, Rona Morison (Julie) as older sister Maggie and Aden Gillett (R and D) as The Father.

Completing the case it Simon Gregor (American Psycho) who plays Joshua and Ellie Turner (The Cherry Orchard) who plays Gretchen.

Design is by Frankie Bradshaw, with lighting by Johanna Town and sound by Richard Hammarton.

Winning the Papatango New Writing Prize meant Grinter won a full production, publiction, 10 per cent of the gross box office for Orca, and £6,000 commission for a second play.

Orca runs at Southwark Playhouse from 4 to 26 November, with previews from 2 November.
