Exclusive: Hit musical Cable Street has revealed the casting for its third run next year.
The piece, written by composer and lyricist Tim Gilvin and playwright Alex Kanefsky, tells the story of the people of London’s East End in 1936, focusing on three young workers: Sammy, a Polish Jew; Mairead, an Irish Catholic; and Ron, a Lancastrian Brit.
The pivotal moment in their lives occurs on Sunday 4 October 1936, during the Battle of Cable Street, with the musical raising the question of which side the young protagonists and their families will be fighting for.
It had its first run last year, where it received a glowing five-star review, being described as “an absolute belter”.
Debbie Chazen will reprise her role as Kathleen, alongside returning cast members Ethan Pascal Peters as Moishe, Max Alexander-Taylor as Sean, Aoife Mac Namara as Orlaith and Jez Unwin as Yitzhak and Steve. Lizzy-Rose Esin-Kelly joins as Mairead, with Isaac Gryn as Sammy, Barney Wilkinson as Ron, Preeya Kalidas as Edie/Elizabeth and Romona Lewis-Malley as Rosa. The ensemble includes Michali Dantes, Annie Majin and Natalie Elisha Welsh as Rachel.
The production includes direction by Adam Lenson, choreography by Jevan Howard-Jones, musical supervision by Tamara Saringer, orchestrations and arrangements by Tim Gilvin, vocal arrangements by Gilvin and Saringer, set design by Yoav Segal, lighting design by Sam Waddington and Ben Jacobs, sound by Charlie Smith, and costume design by Lu Herbert. Casting is by Olivia Laydon for Jill Green Casting.
