
Billy Elliot the Musical will return for a new tour ahead of its West End run.
The production has been seen by more than 10.5 million people worldwide and has won over 80 international awards, including ten Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards. Based on the film, the musical is set during the 1984–85 miners’ strike and follows Billy’s journey from boxing to ballet, changing his life and community.
On the creative side are writer Lee Hall (book and lyrics), director Stephen Daldry and choreographer, Peter Darling, joined by Elton John who composed the show’s score. The production features scenic design by Ian MacNeil, costume design is by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting design by Rick Fisher, sound design by Paul Arditti and hair, wig and make up design by Campbell Young. Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Martin Koch. The tour director is Simon Pollard and the associate choreographer is Jeroen Luiten. Adult casting is by Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher and children’s casting is by Nick Hockaday for Jessica Ronane Casting.
The tour will open in Sunderland on 4 November, with tickets on sale on 9 March 2026. We’ve detailed the initial set of dates here, with more 2027 stops to be revealed in due course.
The musical was last seen on UK shores in a different production at Curve in Leicester in 2022, winning the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Musical Revival.
