Back to the Future the Musical finds a new Doc Brown for the summer

Brian Conley will join the cast of Back to the Future the Musical at the Adelphi Theatre.

The WhatsOnStage Award-winning musical opened in London in September 2021 and is now in its fourth year. It coincides with the 40th anniversary of the original film, which was released in July 1985. The show has also played on Broadway and is currently touring North America. Productions have opened in Japan, with Australian and German runs planned for later this year. A Royal Caribbean production is also in development.

The musical is based on the 1985 film and features a book by Bob Gale, with new music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. It includes songs from the film such as “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B Goode”. The production is directed by John Rando, with design by Tim Hatley, lighting by Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone, sound by Gareth Owen, video by Finn Ross, choreography by Chris Bailey, and illusions by Chris Fisher. Musical supervision is by Nick Finlow, with orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, and dance arrangements by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod.

Conley will play Doctor Emmett Brown from 13 August 2025. His run will last for 12 weeks, concluding on 3 November. Cory English, who currently plays Doctor Emmett Brown, will return to the role from 5 November. The current cast also includes Caden Brauch as Marty McFly, Sarah Goggin as Lorraine Baines, Orlando Gibbs as George McFly, Liam McHugh as Dave McFly, Patricia Wilkins as Linda McFly, CJ Borger as Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry, Alex Runicles as Biff Tannen, Talia Palamathanan as Jennifer Parker, and Lee Ormsby as Strickland and alternate Doctor Emmett Brown.

The alternate Marty McFly is Ellis Kirk. The ensemble features Kofi Aidoo-Appiah, Billie Bowman, Ella Beaumont, Gracie Caine, Charlotte Coggin, Lauren Dawes, Alexander Day, Helen Gulston, Matthew Ives, Connor Lewis, Adam Margilewski, Bryan Mottram, Anna Murray, Samuel Nicholas, Louis Quinn, Zachkiel Smith and Grace Swaby-Moore.

Back to the Future The Musical has won several awards, and has been seen by over 1.6 million people in London and Manchester and broken box office records at the Adelphi Theatre.

The original film starred Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd and grossed over $360 million worldwide. The trilogy has earned over $936 million at the global box office.
