The Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) has today announced that it has bought complete ownership of both the Savoy and Playhouse Theatres in London's West End.

ATG has co-owned the Savoy Theatre with The Tulbart Group since 2005, and the Playhouse Theatre has been jointly owned by ATG and the Tulchin family since 2003.

Rosemary Squire, ATG's joint CEO said: "These beautiful theatres are steeped in history and have already played a huge role in the success of our London operation. We look forward to many more wonderful years running them as proud theatre owners".

The Savoy Theatre on the Strand opened in 1881 and has a capacity of 1,200. It is currently home to Beatles tribute show Let It Be, and in March will see the opening of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Robert Lindsay, Rufus Hound and Katherine Kingsley. Previous shows at the theatre include Legally Blonde, The Sunshine Boys and Cabaret.

The Playhouse Theatre on Northumberland Avenue opened in 1882 and has a capacity of just over 800. It currently houses Monty Python musical Spamalot. Previous shows at the theatre include Dreamboats and Petticoats and La Cage Aux Folles.
