The Arts Theatre will open a new temporary home this summer.

The West End venue (most recently home to The Choir of Man) is currently closed for major works, which you can learn more about here.

With 550 seats, the new semi-permanent theatre will be located at Marble Arch. Designed by Reed Watts Architects, it will feature a grandstand, a 17-metre-wide stage and state-of-the-art facilities. The Arts Theatre at Marble Arch is being built by OSMO Projects.

Custodians of the Arts Theatre, Louis Hartshorn and Brian Hook (of HH Productions), are joined by Tegan Summer Theatricals as co-founders of the new venue.

CEO Hartshorn said: “It is a joy and privilege to build a new theatre in London. We estimate that we will entertain half a million people here in the next two years alone, maintaining the programming and spirit of the Arts Theatre and keeping as many of our incredible staff team together as possible. We’re honoured to be bringing a cultural offering to the iconic Marble Arch and thank everyone at Westminster Council for their support and commitment to the project.”

Councillor Ryan Jude, cabinet member for climate, ecology, culture and air quality, said: “The Arts Theatre’s temporary move to Marble Arch is a fantastic example of the council’s commitment to supporting a thriving cultural scene in Westminster. Not only will this exciting new venue activate an iconic location within the West End with a high-quality cultural offer, but it will also preserve the legacy, jobs, artistic programming and cultural output of the Arts whilst it undergoes a transformational upgrade.”

Summer added: “I am proud to partner with Louis and Brian on a venture that aims to redefine how a new London theatre can serve its artists and audiences. The strong support from residents and the industry underlines the value of a venue committed to innovative work that strengthens the cultural footprint of the city. I am determined to help steer this theatre toward a future driven by ambition, excellence, and a clear strategic vision for its growth.”

All plans are subject to the award of a premises license.

The HH senior leadership team includes venues and operations head Andrew Mills, head of real estate, Richard Metcalfe, and director and senior producer, Rebecca Woolcock.

Programming will feature both new productions and established shows, with details to be announced soon.
