Fiona Evans’ Fringe First-winning Edinburgh Festival hit play Scarborough received its London premiere at the Royal Court last night (11 February 2008, previews from 7 February) in a new two-part version, which, ahead of opening, extended its limited season in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs by a week, to 15 March, to meet demand for tickets (See News, 25 Jan 2008).

Step into a faded hotel room where Lauren and Daz are having an illicit weekend away. Amongst the peeling wallpaper, they laugh, quarrel and make love, but they don’t dare go out. After all, at 15 years old, one of them is just a child… the other their teacher.

Holly Atkins reprises her 2007 Edinburgh performance as the teacher Lauren, with Jack O’Connell as her student, Daz. At the Royal Court, the twist is that the piece is then replayed, with the genders switched and Daniel Mays as the teacher (renamed Aiden) and ShamelessRebecca Ryan as his underaged pupil, Beth.

For 1st Night Photos, our Whatsonstage.com photographer Dan Wooller was on hand for the post-show party at the Royal Court along with the company, author Fiona Evans and director Deborah Bruce.
