Leanne Best will star in The Human Voice at the Gate Theatre, the first show in Ellen McDougall's second season at the venue.

Adapted from Jean Cocteau's classic text La Voix Humaine by Daniel Raggett (who also directs), the monologue follows a woman fighting for the person she loves through a phone call.

Best is probably best known for her screen appearances in Tin Star and Black Mirror, while on stage her credits include The Matchbox, Damned by Despair and Educating Rita.

The piece has design by Sarah Beaton, with lighting design by Jessica Hung Han Yun and sound design by Mike Winship.

McDougall's season also includes a production of Sarah Ruhl's Dear Elizabeth and an adaptation of Jamaica Kincaid's A Small Place.
