American Psycho's Duncan Sheik: 'We're doing a West End transfer'

Sheik has confirmed the show will transfer – replete with its star Matt Smith – in the autumn

After much speculation it appears the West End transfer of Headlong's musical version of American Psycho will go ahead later this year.

Speaking to San Francisco radio station KFOG-FM, the show's composer Duncan Sheik said: "It looks like we’re doing a West End transfer in the fall, and if that goes well, we’ll bring it to America."

He also confirmed the show will transfer with Doctor Who star Matt Smith reprising the role of Patrick Bateman. Smith's availability was believed to be the stumbling block to Rupert Goold's production transferring sooner.

"He is the biggest sweetheart ever," Sheik said of Smith, who originated the role at the Almeida in December. "He did an amazing job. I'm really excited about getting back and working with Matt again."

Adapted from Bret Easton Ellis' cult novel, American Psycho tells the story of Wall Street trader and self-possessed serial killer Patrick Bateman, who is living the high life in 1980s Manhanttan – buying the most expensive designer clothes, eating at the most exclusive restaurants, partying at the hottest clubs… and indulging in much darker transgressions privately.
