What's In My Dressing Room? – Sarah Hadland

The ”Miranda” actress is currently appearing in ”What’s In a Name?” at Birmingham Rep

Sarah Hadland is best known for playing Stevie in the BBC sitcom Miranda, and she also appeared in the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Her theatre credits include Grease, Time and the Conways and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

She is currently appearing in What's in a Name? at the Birmingham Rep, which WhatsOnStage said evoked 'belly laughter to shocked silence' in a five-star review.

We asked Hadland to show us around her dressing room at the Rep.

The Family Photos

SH: "I always have photos of my family and friends. It’s really important to have them here with me and on first nights, it’s who I picture in the audience whether they are there or not."

The Kitten Slippers

SH: "These kitten slippers were sent to me on press night as a good luck present from Miranda. They’re the perfect, glamorous accessory to wear around my dressing room."

The Script

SH: "My script – it’s like a comfort blanket. It’s completely dismantled and out of order which slightly horrifies my fellow cast members, but I like to take pages away and I always have it backstage with me. It’s too late and of no use then of course, but having it near by is always a comfort."

The Lucky Star

SH: "This is a lucky star from my mum. She normally buys me a lucky finger puppet – yes, I’m in my 40s and my mum still buys me a lucky toy!"

The Drinks Cabinet

SH: "This is my essential dressing room drinks cabinet – a travel kettle, M&S Luxury Gold tea bags (Miranda calls it Marxist tea but it’s the best tea ever), vitamin C and a chicory drink which my fellow cast members always tease me about, it’s like pretend coffee."

The Dressing Room Table

SH: "This is old school but I like to have a towel to lay everything out on, on my dressing room table. Everything is in order and has its place."

What's in a Name? runs at Birmingham Rep until 11 February.
