In the latest Radio podcast, Roger Foss pays a visit to the Menier Chocolate Factory for its much-anticipated revival of Alan Menken’s cult sci-fi musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors, which opens this month.

The show’s stars – Sheridan Smith, Paul Keating, Barry James, Jasper Britton and Mike McShane, who is the voice of the plant Audrey II – and director Matthew White talk about their experiences on the production. “It’s time for Little Shop to come back,” says Barry James, who created the role of flower shop assistant Seymour in the original West End production at the Comedy Theatre 20 years ago and is now playing the shop owner, Mr Mushnik.

Also in this podcast, you can hear:

  • An extract from the original cast recording of Little Shop of Horrors, one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time
  • Clips from My Favourite Things, the debut album from The Sound of Music and How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? star Connie Fisher
  • Clark Peters singing “Oh Lawd, I Am on My Way” from Trevor Nunn’s new musical version Porgy and Bess, currently playing at the Savoy Theatre.
