Dressing up for Simply Musicals???

By • West End
The BBC is bringing the stage to the screen with Simply Musicals, a new four-part series being filmed over the coming months. Hosted by John Barrowman (who, though best known for his musical successes in the likes of Anything Goes, is currently starring opposite Rob Lowe in the courtroom drama A Few Good Men at the Theatre Royal Haymarket), the programme will feature extracts from shows - including Billy Elliot, Blood Brothers, Guys and Dolls, Chicago, My Fair Lady, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and Cats - performed by West End stars such as Ruthie Henshall and Jill Halfpenny. Theatre lovers can apply to watch the series being filmed via the BBC website, but be warned, you’ll have to get out your glad rags. There’s a strict (and amusing) “dress for the theatre” rule, which means jeans, trainers and t-shirts are banned.
