Tikaram & Gabrielle Play King & I on UK Tour

Full dates and casting have been announced for the forthcoming national tour of Leicester Curve’s acclaimed revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, which kicks off at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre on 17 December 2011 (previews from 14 December).

The cast will be led by Ramon Tikaram (Bombay Dreams, Jesus Christ Superstar) as The King and two-time Olivier Award nominee Josefina Gabrielle (Oklahoma!, Sweet Charity) as Anna.

The show tells the heart-warming story of the British governess brought to the court of Siam to tutor the King’s many children, and includes songs such as “Shall We Dance”, “I Whistle A Happy Tune”, “Hello Young Lovers”, “The March of the Siamese Children” and “Getting To Know You”.

Paul Kerryson’s production, which features “giant gold Buddhas, sumptuous costumes, a chorus of adorable children, acrobatic dancers and a ten-piece orchestra”, was first seen in Leicester last December, when it starred Janie Dee and Chook Sibtain.

The touring cast also features Claire-Marie Hall (Tup-Tim), Adrian Li Donni (Lun-tha), Maya Sapone (Lady Thiang), Nicholas Goh (Kralahome), and Gary Wood (Prince Choulalonghorn), alongside Craig Turbyfield, Rowan Lewis Mitchell, Aiko Kato, Makato Leahy, Charlotte Humphrey, Naomi Bailie, Farrah Hussain, Kaho Uchida, Misa Koide, Adam Denman, Matthew Cheney, Lori Hayley Fox and Yuki Ikezawa.

After finishing in Edinburgh on 7 January 2012, it will embark on an extensive UK tour, including a return to the Leicester Curve.

The full tour dates are: Llandudno Venue Cymru (10-14 January), Sheffield Lyceum (17-21 January), Newcastle Theatre Royal (24-28 January), Belfast Grand Opera House (31 January-4 February), Northampton Royal & Derngate (7-11 February), New Theatre Oxford (14-18 February), The Lowry Salford (21-25 February), Nottingham Theatre Royal (28 February-3 March), Cheltenham Everyman (6-10 March), Cardiff New Theatre (13-17 March), Southampton Mayflower (20-24 March), Wolverhampton Grand Theatre (27-31 March), Liverpool Empire (3-7 April), Plymouth Theatre Royal (10-14 April), Woking New Victoria (24-28 April), Birmingham Hippodrome (1-5 May), Leicester Curve (8-12 May), Bradford Alhambra (15-19 May) and Dublin Grand Canal (22-26 May).
