The Young Vic have announced four new shows and casting for Blue/Orange.

Matthew Xia directs the new production of Joe Penhall's award-winning Blue/Orange – which premiered at the National Theatre in 2000 – from 12 May to 18 June. The cast will star Skins and Trelawny of the Wells (Donmar) actor Daniel Kaluuya and Olivier Award-winner Luke Norris who returns to the Young Vic following his appearance in A View from the Bridge.

Commenting on the casting, artistic director David Lan said: "Daniel Kaluuya was a revelation in our A Season in the Congo as was Luke Norris in A View from the Bridge. I'm delighted to welcome them both back to play patient and doctor in Matthew Xia’s production of Joe Penhall's edge-of-seat state of the nation masterpiece."

Following their hit Kafka's Monkey, Kathryn Hunter, Walter Meierjohann and Colin Teevan reunite to stage the world premiere of The Emperor (3 to 24 September). Based on the book by Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuściński, the show follows the downfall of an emperor's regime through the eyes of his staff; a catalogue of characters each created by award-winning actress Hunter.

In October, South African company Isango Ensemble return to the Young Vic after their international hit The Magic Flute. The company return with the UK premiere of A Man of Good Hope, based on the book by Jonny Steinberg (6 October to 12 November). Elsewhere, Ian Rickson directs The Nest, a new adaptation by Conor McPherson of the classic German play exploring working-class life and an increasingly materialistic society (28 October to 26 November).

Lastly, Richard Jones directs Kaufman and Hart’s Hollywood satire Once in a Lifetime (25 November to 14 January 2017). The production will feature design by Hyemi Shin and costumes by Nicky Gillibrand. Casting is yet to be announced.

Lan said: "South Africa, Hollywood, Ethiopia, Germany, Northern Ireland. We look forward to welcoming you to all those places and to The Cut in Waterloo."
