Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor Stockard Channing is to star in a new production of Apologia.
Channing, who is known for her roles in The Good Wife, The West Wing and her role as Rizzo in the 1978 film Grease, will take the role of Kristin Miller, a matriarch of a family who is presiding over birthday celebrations.
The piece, which originally opened in 2008 at the Bush Theatre, will be directed by Jamie Lloyd in a run which begins 29 July and runs to 18 November. It follows Lloyd's acclaimed productions at Trafalgar Studios which includes Richard III, The Ruling Class and Macbeth.
The play follows eminent art historian Miller and her dysfunctional relationship with her sons, Pete and Simon.
Channing said: "I'm excited to be returning to the West End – my first time both working with Jamie Lloyd and performing at the Trafalgar Studios. I was so drawn to this unforgettably bold and uncompromising character in such a rich, moving and witty play. I can't wait for us to bring Apologia to life for the audiences."
Apologia runs at Trafalgar Studios from 3 August to 18 November, with previews from 29 July.
