Not sure when. But as anyone seen this yet. I saw it last week I thought the staging was good -artistically & D Vickers wasn't half bad. Does any one know what the last song was called?

Saw the show last week, think the set worked well and is possibly star of the show. The mother has the largest role and plays it well. First half seemed to drag and DV does not have much to do. Overall DV was ok, but I alsways knew it would be quite a big role for someone to take on as Jane Horrocks did such a good job in the film. Not terrible show, but not rushing to see it again.

Yes, got day seats Thurs night - stalls £25. Excellent seats. Rather underwhelmed with the show though. DV cannot do the impersonations - surely the whole point of the play! It made a mockery of Ray Say telling Mr Boo that it was LV singing not a recording of Shirley Bassey (or was it Judy Garland, Dusty Springfield etc - couldn't tell the difference)! Alot of the humour in the play was missed (not just by me, but by the whole audience!). I usually love Lesley Sharp's work, but did not like her interpretation of Mari Hoff - at some points her accent was so thick couldn't understand what she was saying and I know the script! Didn't think her costumes were right either (not tarty,or tight, or common enough). Mark Warren as Ray Say looked the part, and his "bluebird" scene with LV was one of the high points. Sadie (Rachel Umbers) stole the show for me, and I really liked Jim Cartwright's son as Billy and the wonderful two piece band that played at the club! The set was excellent. Just made me wish I had seen Jane Horrocks on stage in the original production.

Saw the Saturday matinee for a second outing. The show has got even stronger. Mari and Ray have added to the comedy and people obviously understood Lesley's accent as they laughed in all the right places. The OTT Mari being played for
laughs works well set against a perfectly credible LV as they can shift mood easily when LV is involved. Diana Vickers is completely on top of the acting from the silences and looks on her bed that keep the story serious to the resolution with mother and, if anything, her voice is getting stronger. No one around me had any difficulty working out who the sung voices were - the second act show montage is still one of the most stunning performances in the West End and got massive applause at its end. Piaf and Monroe still grab the audience ready for Bassey to blast them up out of their seats. Julie Andrews I think was even stronger this time - a better impersonation now than Connie. The final song with Diana singing as Diana also seems stronger with stronger staging too, and its lyrics come over better with that. There was another long standing ovation for everyone at the end. You can see why it got Whatsonstage award nominations for all three of its leads. Watching Diana you can also see why it took so long to find someone who looked and sounded right and who could sing the role and do it without Horrocks advantage of surprise. Its a billiant bit of casting.
