Has anyone seen this yet, any good? I may take up the £12 Under 26s ticket offer just to see Kevin Spacey up close anyway. But I'd quite like the play to be good!

Haven't seen this production, but I have the script and it's a cracking read. Looking forward to seeing the play! You should go, and let us know what it's like! tongue.gif

Got an "Over-26" ticket for October. Looking forward to renewing my dodgy Kev relationship (4 plays bought, only two seen!)

VERY disappointing. as far as the production goes this is gone with the wind!! trevor nunn has made something which is by its nature static during the court room scenes static from start to finish

they have thing big rambling set which if it doesnt reach the back wall it cant be far off, but its not used to the best of its ability. the performances are disappointing apart from david troughton

kevin spacey looks awful. they have given him the most dreadful white wig, and it makes him look like something across between lt columbo and dave allen. he has developed the ability to walk like zaza in la cage doing the john wayne segment. all i could say in his favour was that he was easy to hear

i saw the fabulous production 2 years ago on broadway with brian dennehey and christopher plumber - why they didnt just transfer this production im not sure. this was 2 hours, and from memory i think it was straight through without an interval although i might be wrong - why on earth trevor nunn needs to put in singing etc which does nothing to advance the plot, just to advance the running time i am not sure

why cant he direct something which comes in under three weeks, sorry hours i dont know!

Well, there's singing in the script. It's (probably) not like Nunn went mental and stuck it in for laughs.

Couldn't agree less with the above post! I saw it tonight and was totally gripped from start to finish. I loved both Spacey and Troughton. Don't understand the criticism of Spacey's walk. It is exactly as described by one of the characters in the script. There was a pretty much unanimous standing ovation at the end and lively audience reaction thoughout.
BTW are you allergic to capital letters?

I offer the opening paragraph of Ben Brantley's review of the NY production
"The handsome wooden courtroom that has been erected on the stage of the Lyceum Theater is Christopher Plummer’s personal playground. This may sound like a frivolous description of a forum for the lofty and abidingly important debate that occupies “Inherit the Wind,” the 1955 drama that opened last night, also starring Brian Dennehy, in a revival that is just about as wooden as its set."
Hmmmm

That is one critics opinion. I too saw that New York production and thought it was terrific.
I' m sure the new London production will be too as it has two good actors in the leads.
