I went along last night for Omid's first night and thought he did very well, although you could tell he was very nervous. wink.gif

I've seen the show twice now, first with Rowan and yesterday with Omid and they both bring something very different to the role of Fagin and are funny in their own ways.

He acted the role brilliantly and was also quite villianous which the role always needs.

I loved his 'Pick A Pocket Or Two', especially the ending of the song where his lost note of 'Boooyyysss' turned into his famous Arabic singing and shouting. The audience loved it and It was very very funny. His worst song was 'Be Back Soon', he hardly sang the right tune to the song and whispered and talked his way through it - I was very dissapointed as I love that song. Once again 'Reviewing The Situation' stole the show and he brought something different to the role, choreographey changed to Rowan etc and they were both funny. His arabic/camp dancing to the violen in 'RTS' was PRICELESS! Some jokes have changed from Rowan and both comedians try their own thing on the stage which is refreshing too see.

Overall I think he done well, he was nervous and you could tell and it was his first night so he was trying out new jokes to see how they went with the audience. The role of Fagin really does liven up the show, I find it all dire and tedious untill Dodger, Fagin and Nancy show up. sad.gif

Jodie was fantastic once again, as was Francessco as Oliver and Dodger was much better this time round.

Biggest dissapointment was us being told Omid would come out after the after show party. We waited till 12.30am (my brother is a big fan blink.gif ) outside, there was only four of us. We were told he was coming round at stage door, we made our way there to be told he was coming out front, so we went round front. No sight of him. Made our way back to stage door where we were told that Omid had already taken his bike and gone, (also note we were told he was there with his wife and family at the party so how they all got on his one bike is beyond me laugh.gif ). So we sat outside rather pissed off to be honest, when some more crew came out and asked us what we were doing and they had said he left half an hour ago (they were lovely and seemed quite angry that we had been told to wait around dry.gif ). Plus side is, Jodie was an absolute star at stage door (once again) she popped out for five minutes had a chat then went back to the party, and we met Cameron MacIntosh who was also adorable.

Still apart from that, it was an enjoyable show (still needs some cutting down especially the Bumble/Corney scenes) and was alot of fun.

I can't really judge it being Omid's first night as he still needs to settle but Rowan was overall the much better Fagin.

Just back from seeing Oliver tonight. Thought the show was really good.
Was surprised to see it discounted at tkts so soon atfer Rowan Atkinson leaving. Not sure if it was only there because it was Jodie Prenger wasn't on either . Interesting thou that bwore the large sign facing Covent Garden just had Rowan Atkinson's name on . It now has both omid's and jodies.

I saw the show yesterday afternoon and thought Omid was hilarious! I haven't seen the show before yesterday and I have to admit I haven't seen the film either so I didn't really know the story that well, I knew most of the songs though.
Jodie was also brilliant and so lovely at the stage door afterwards!

I went to see the show again this weekend - it is just brilliant! I sat in stalls, middle of row O - I can recommend it for a full perfect view of everything.

AT LAST! I saw an Oliver who was NOT out-performed by Dodger! Up to now I have found (and quite deservingly) that Eric & Ross have been the ones who have had the biggest applauses at the end because they were so awesome, however Francesco Piacentini-Smith was SO GOOD as Oliver, he was the first one that I found absolutely convincing in his portrayal and in 'Where is Love' - heart-wrenching! Don't get me wrong, I liked Harry and Gwion, but Francesco was perfect! Whereas you can tell Gwion is Welsh, you can't tell Francesco is Scottish - he manages to completely hide it with an excellent cockney accent! He sings great, dances great, looks like an Oliver (in my opinion!), and is a brilliant little actor!

Callum Henderson was Dodger and although he had all the cheekiness, confidence and cockiness that one would expect, he didn't seem to have the charisma and charm that Eric and Ross have. He is only new in the role though, so maybe it will come?

Iranian actor/comedian Omid Djalili was a week into his role of Fagin and he brings a whole new fresh interpretation - very different than Rowan Atkinson's. I am glad in a way. I thought Rowan was a superb and faultless Fagin, but Omid does quite a good job. I particularly enjoyed his Iranian style dancing at times and his reference to MP's expenses! I would like him to sound a little less cockney and a bit more Jewish in his accent though! Not a major criticism, just personal preference I suppose! He seemed much more comfortable than Rowan signing autographs and having photos taken. In a way it's a shame there was nowhere near as many people at the stage door now that Rowan's gone.

Nice to see my favourite (and the best!) Nipper still in the show and to find out he's there until December!

Sarah Lark played the role of Charlotte and there was an understudy for Widow Corney too.
