RENT the musical

2nd -6th JUNE 2009

Box Office 01293 553636

The Hawth Theatre, Crawley, West Sussex

To follow on from Ariel Company Theatres success with Tommy and Return to the Forbidden Planet at the Hawth theatre, Crawley, Sussex.

We are please to announce we will be performing RENT by JONATHAN LARSON for our June 2009 show, at the main stage at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley, Sussex

RENT Based on La boheme,
Art and money. Youth and death. AIDS and heroin. Do these sound like proper topics for a musical?

Jonathan Larson's 1996 "Rent" makes tragedy and joy out of such matters. Winner of the Tony Award for best musical and the Pulitzer Prize, "Rent" is the ultimate rock musical, a reworking of Puccini's opera "La Bohème". It follows a group of young artists on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the'90s as they struggle to make it, to connect with one another, to free themselves from rules and drugs and fear.
Larson died just before the show began previews, but "Rent" is lasting evidence of his skills as writer, composer and lyricist. The melodies and harmonies are beautiful; the book is clever but never ironic in its intense look at love and art. And the lyrics are funny, feeling, witty

I'm bumping this up as I have just bought tickets as I know someone in the cast . I think he is an amazing actor and have seen him in many productions over the years so this is worth the money alone just to see him perform.

Seeing this by the Ariel theatre Company was a perfect example of why people shouldnt be snooty about amateur theatre-
It was a far better production than the West End Rent Remixed that I had seen during its last week.
Amateur in name does not equate with "amateur" in performance- anyway the cast included graduates from Mountview and Arts Ed.
I went because I knew a member of the cast from another theatre company - but now I shall defitenly consider seeing their future productions.
