Has anyone seen this? It finishes on saturday and is certainly a spirited production. The RSC Nickleby has a lot to answer for , and whilst this is very different, you can still see the fear of even beginning to present Dickens literally, and I'm with that. But here is an attempt to really simplify the staging and get from one scene to another as quick as possible, and their device of dozens of trap doors and sliding doors became a trick in itself, and actually became the show itself. too clever by half.....inventive, but the invention got in the way of the plot. Very few still moments, or moments of beign with the characters. Some trick happened and we were off. And the doors wobbled way too much. I just wanted to calm the whole production down a bit and let Dickens have his say, as it was he was the least significant element on the stage. Still an impressive alternative to panto.
