Went back to see Zorro tonight after seeing and really enjoying a preview but tonight not really sure it was the same show as many of the performances were really lacklustre,Matt Rawle vocals were not in the same league as before and Lesli Margerita who last time gave a performance that was so great, but tonight could not live up to it and seemed to be really going through the motions,Emma Williams was the same as last time really great singing but abysmal acting. Only Adam Levy excelled tonight giving a tremendous powerhouse performance but unlike the last time when the whole audience stood, tonight not many rose to there feet at the end, I certainly didn't as on the whole didn't think the performance warranted one.

Oh no - that would be a real shame!

I enjoyed it immensely when I went in previews and I'm going again next Wednesday. It would be a travesty if the cast have lost the energy so soon into the run - I'm hoping that perhaps they just had an off day!

I saw it on tues this week and loved it - didn't think it was tired at all. Matt and all the cast were superb. Long may it continue (and had a standing ovation).

I was there last night as well- honestly, the only thing I can praise is the energy levels of the cast, which were remarkable considering the material, which I felt was dire. Clearly I'm in the minority as the audience loved it and many even gave it a standing ovation.

I enjoyed it more than I expected it to...Loved the flamenco music and dancing. It was very camp and didn't take itself too seriously which I liked. Unpretentious and lotsa fun. Agreed the script wasn't as good as it could be, but not as jarring as Gone With The Wind!

I saw it last night too and did find it a bit lack lustre but I hadnt seen it before so nothing to compare, the standing ovation was only a few towards the back and I was not one of them,it was very hot in theatre and maybe that didnt help the show last night,I couldnt take to Matt Rawle to me he just does have the charisma to really pull off the role of Zorro and his acting skills I feel are limited.

And Emma Williams really seemed out of place and only seen her once before in Chitty and she was the exact same character in that show as she was in Zorro last night.

After all the message board hype I was expecting a much better show than I got last night!

I love Zorro, I've seen it twice, saw it once for my birthday then loved it so much I had to take a friend who also loved it (*coughabovememberJessiecough*laugh.gif). I felt both performances were similar, Adam Levy I agree with Jay222 was just a powerhouse, Lesli was better the first time I saw her but evryone has good and bad performances, I think Matt and Emma and the ensemble is brilliant. There's a massive energy within the cast. I don't know how they manage all that dance 8 times a week. When people at the front of the stalls, it tends to start the rest of them standing which is what happened both times I went.

The criticism here seems to be over the acting which I thought was great, it's the script I was concerned about. The camp bits are all funny but it feels like the script has been written around the funny scenes. The story could probably be made more emotive, and the script they have given Ramon 'And so God created man in his own image' etc. I get that it shows how much he thinks of himself, but it's a stiff script and a few lines I don't think you'd catch any human beings saying in real life.

I was there on Tuesday evening too and it was really excellent. You have to take it on it's own terms. It's not great drama but the singing and dancing were very good. They well deserved their ovation, but we did wonder if the company could possibly keep up those energy levels every night.

I think that's true. I didn't feel it was a good show at all and I think the audience reaction is for the energy injected into it by the cast. They are carrying a very poor musical. Similarly with the standing ovations. Matt isn't the greatest singer in the world but as in Evita and the recent Aspects tour, he has the ability to get the audience to overlook that and enjoy his performance. I thought Emma was ok. Perhaps not as suited to this role as some others I've seen her in, but still not bad.

I'm getting sick of seeing shows that aren't up to a quality that should be necessary for a West End staging. This is another one with poor material that relies too heavily on the cast to do their best with it. They deserve something better and so does the audience. It shouldn't be a case of - shame about the material.
