slightly disappointing - no barbara cook who was originally billed, no jerry herman who is ill but recovering and a bit of a song at the end from 'angie' landsbury who was totally downed out by the absolutely fabulous royal phil

thankfully we had stunning performances from melissa errico, ron raines, klea blackhurst and some bloke called sol/sal who id never heard of - they were all brilliant

had songs from everything including mack and mabel, mame, hello dolly, la cage, milk and honey and his new show miss spectacular. one of the highlights was the fabulously played 'international' dolly

brilliant evening well worth seeing!

I really enjoyed the concert but was disappointed by it if it's possible. It had the potential of being a really really good concert but it was just so messy! I wished wished wished Angela can sing something but she only did 1-2 lines... oh well... it was great to see her onstage nonetheless!
For the rest of the cast... Rob Gaines was good! very good! Melissa, she has a great voice but I don't think she's just not right singing Jerry's songs... duno why. The other 2 were great... apart from 'I am what I am'... really disappointing. The orchestra was great! The lighting was messy to distracting to annoying!

I sorta wished they would invite more people and like more local stars like the one they had last yr? I mean they are selling quite expensive tickets afterall! I would say I had more fun with Barbara Cook's concert end of last yr way more than this overall, but Jerry Herman's music... urgh... just so damn good!

PS: I waited at the stagedoor for Angela... it started to rain and so I left... did she come out eventually?

Angela did come out. She didn't sign or pose for any photographs, but she was shaking hands as she was being ushered to her car.

I went up to get an autograph (didn't see if she was signing until I was close due to the mass amounts of people), but she looked very frail. I then saw someone shove a camera literally a foot away from her face, so a huge flash went off... at that point I walked away because I thought people were being utterly disgusting and rude. I couldn't stand to be there seeing them do that to such an elderly, lovely woman.

I turned around as I was walking away and people were continuing to flash cameras in her car windows. It was awful. I can't believe people would be so disrespectful.

Fabulous.

I really liked melissa errico, ron raines, klea blackhurst not so keen on the other guy

Capitol voices were also fabulous

Shame Angie only sang when the MD was singing. It what age does to you? Although at long last I’ve seen A.L.

Seeing the concert made me want to see a big old fashioned show. The West End does not currently have one. Where is our 42nd St or Hello Dolly?

Hi

I don't know about 42nd St but I do know where 'Hello, Dolly! is touring, this week it's in Eastbourne at the Congress Theatre and if you go to the Current page of Anita Dobson's website at: www.theanitadobsonfanclub.com you will find the full list of remaining venues as it's touring until August. Anita plays Dolly Levi, Darren Day and Louise English also have key roles and despite some not too pleasant remarks made on this site about the show, i can truly say, if you manage to get to see the show, you won't be disappointed, it's one of the best musicals on tour.

hope this answers your question?

best wishes

Hi yes it is a big production. Such a shame you missed it, only last week it was in Bromley and in March was in Wimbledon. We can only hope it eventually goes to the West End. In all this production which started Feb 1st in Wolverhampton is a long tour 8 months in total.
Actually, would Southend be too far for you to see it?

all the best anyway and do hope you an catch it somewhere.
all the best

I almost went to see this concert just to see the wonderful Angela Lansbury but i just couldn't afford it. I would have been a little upset with how people behaved at the stage door too. I've always wanted to see her on stage, but i doubt now that she will do a show on the West End. She did "Deuce" recently on Broadway...sadly i can't see her ever doing a play on West End, i'm sure there are loads of people who would really want to see her though. She is a real legend of the stage.

I went to the show too, one because I just love the music of Jerry Herman and two, because I wanted to see Angela Lansbury! It was a terrific show, especially in the second half, I thought. The highlights for me, musically, were the international version of Helly Dolly and Where In The World Is My Prince, which was absolutely hilarious. Any word on whether this show will ever be produced? I'd so love to see it on the stage! Angela Lansbury was great and looks amazing for her age. All the performers were good (didn't like the version of I Am What I Am though, a bit of a massacre, I thought!) and the RPO were magnificent. A great night, altogether, and my friends were lucky enough to have our tickets upgraded at no extra cost, so we had excellent seats too, which we weren't expecting! smile.gif

Was sad that Jerry Herman himself wasn't well enough to attend. I went to his BBC concert last year too and sadly he couldn't attend then either. I wish him well and hope he has recovered now.

I Completely agree!! People were being sooo disrespectful and rude. She was very fragile and extremely tired due to the fact she had flown over that morning and hadnt really had anytime to rest and then people were shoving cameras, with blinding flashes in her face! No wonder she was quickly ushered into her car!
I was lucky enough it meet her after the show and she is a truely wonderful and remarkable woman. Also very high spirited especially for her age!
