The critics seem to pretty much hate it

But the word is that the public really like it.

It wuill be interesting how long its run is, after Tarzan, i am sure disney are hoping for a hit witht eh box office, although not that Ticket sales opn broadway are going to affect the worldwide corporation that is disney.

Not completely panned. Associated Press gave it a good review and USA Today was kind of on the fence. I gather the Wall Street Journal was positive too, but it requires registration.

Edit:
Note 1: The URLs given by Laughingmonsta go to the same page. To get the second video you have to click on the thumbnail for it.
Note 2: Sierra Boggess is cute. "Why couldn't she be the other kind of mermaid, with the fish part on top and the lady part on the bottom?"
In my opinion anyone interested in improving himself should not rule out becoming pure energy.

I have to say, that on the evidence of the video clip for under the sea it looks pretty dire.

But then I was one who thought the Lion king would never work.

OK then, the staging does, and the first five minutes are fantastic.

The rest depends on if the children are any good and if the cast are awake. (They were the first time I saw it, and definitley not on the second time!

Seriously though, at least this was done with some creativity. Enough for me to see past the fact that it was another film to stage transfer. From what i see of LM, I am not sure there is enough.

I saw this is new york at the begining of Jannuary and found it to be my favourite disney show i have seen. The only two disney shows i have not seen are aida and beauty and the beast. I loved every second of it and the costumes and set were amazingly clever. I loved the heely shoe things and they worked really well. The only costume i had a problem with was flounder. When you are there seeinbg it is totally different to watching a low res internet video.

ptwest...............i understand what you are saying. The vision behind it is tremendous, as is (as you say) the first 5 minutes. My main problem with it is that the bits they have added to it to make it longer than the film are so DULL considering it is supposed to be a kids show. the 2nd half is wrist slittingly slow and boring.
I have also yet to see a decent Scar, and have seen it a few times ( i am a teacher in case you wondering why go and see something you dont like and it crops up every so often)
Agree what you say about the cast as well. Really quite lazy but then it must be quite tricky to play grass i suppose.
Another quick point Have they started to go for Colour blind casting in it yet?..........................................I doubt it
