I was really looking forward seeing Chita as I think she is amazing and also it’s a concert in London this year that doesn’t have Maria Friedman in! I would like to see this http://www.delfontmackintosh.co.uk/book/JerryHermanGala.php but … Maria Freidman does appear to be the queen of concerts at the moment. Maybe I need to work through my MF angst with a counsellor or does anyone know any of glitzy concerts or any other divas performing.

The last musicals concert that stood out for me was Company with the BBC Concert Orchestra and I want to get that high again

Thank God I am not the only one who is not taken with MF. great voice but as much charisma and acting ability as dead sheep. Her Roxie was sexless.

I am not alone then. Sweeney at the RFH and Good Thing Going at Cadogan were both hindered by the "look at me I'm being emotional" falseness of MF.

The thing that really bugs me as that I hear that she is a Sondheim specialist and then fills all of her performances with the mawkish, false emotion that I believe the best perfomers of his work eschew. Daniel Evans for example.

Then I hear she is poor in shows such as Chicago too.

I will admit she did not offend me in Ragtime at the Picadilly a few years ago, but she would have had to work very hard to ruin that wonderful show.

Other than that I find she continuously makes the wrong choices in her interpreatations.

I saw Maria in the "Follies concert" at the Paladium and she was great!

Great as in "I" liked her performance (just my opinion) I thought she played the role of Sally very well. It was just a one night concert and everyone gave 100 %

Yep, Passion & Follies both left me cold. I don't like her on various recordings as well

Hence me not seeing any concerts this year

To me she overacts through everything

Yes, I'm not a Maria Friedman fan either. I can't quite put my finger on why but I've never enjoyed any of her performances. She always leaves me cold. But judging by the amount of work she gets there must be a significant amount of people out there who do, in fact, believe in her performance abilities much more than we do.
I won't be called a baggage!
