Just back from New York and saw The Addams Family. Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth both very good and a very interestng set. The rest of the cast were good, especially the actress playing Grandma. Thought the staging was really good, lots of use of some spectacular front swagged curtains which are used throughout the show revealing different parts of the action and some clever use of puppets. However, not a memorable song in the show and a very weak book. Music was a mixture of styles, some old fashioned and a couple of Rent/Spring Awakening type songs. Seemed like they were desperately trying to fill out the 2hrs.30mins with as many silly gags as possible. I know that Nathan Lane was in the Producers but it reminded me of that show crossed with Young Frankenstein. Dont think it will be on Broadway for years to come but will probably have a healthy run as long as the 2 main leads are in it.

The critics didn't seem to like it much, but if I was going anywhere near NY I would give it a chance. I really like Bebe and Nathan, I agree that as long as they're in it it will run well.

He was very good in it, great voice. His pairing with Krysta Rodriguez as the Addams family daughter (Wednesday) was great - they worked vert well together, and she too has a really great voice!

Saw a clip of the show on the letterman show few nights ago. The music sounds ok but the cast all seem terrific. Kind of wish I was going to NY sometime soon.

Officially opens on broadway tonight. And I wouldn't mind seeing the show in london!

I saw pre-Broadway Chicago tryouts in December. The show is not unentertaining at all, but very weak at points, especially in act 2. And what is up with the octupus?

The staging is nice at times, but the ancestors needed to go.
I understand a lot has been done from Chicago to New York, but I thought that the entire act II needed to be completely rewritten to work.

It would be great if the West End could start getting some high profile transfers of shows and I think this is one that could do quite well. The only B'way transfer that has done well recently is Legally Blonde.

Fingers crossed to good reviews, which will hopefully lead to that transfer.
