Michael Ball announced on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross tonight that he is to play Sweeney Todd in the summer of 2011.

Imelda Staunton is rumoured to be playing Mrs. lovett.

Glad he's confirmed it. It should form part of the 2011 Chichester season, and then trasfer into town afterwards. Jonathan Kent (I think) is directing.

I was watching last night and I was a bit dazed for a few minutes! Never thought he'd do Sweeney Todd, but it's different! So hoorah!

Love the score, not a fan of the recent J/Depp film at all. Michael Ball is interesting casting he suprised me with his wonderful portrayal of 'Edna' in 'Hairspray' , so I am prepared to wait and see. wink.gif

I saw the OLC with Shelia Hancock & Denis Quilley. Loved it.

There has to be an "eaten all the pies" joke in there somewhere...

Faced with a choice of a load of old twaddle and a masterpiece I know which I'd rather have!

I'm so glad it's confirmed - I read it on Wikipedia ages ago and just thought someone had made it up! I've wanted to see Michael Ball on stage for ages, and now I might finally get to.
