The producers of flashdance, ie David Ian are apprently wanting to bring the show into town, They have checked out the shaftsbury as a possible venue. Is Hairspray doing ok???

I take the point, but its not quite as heavily discounted as other shows and rarely appears at the weekend. Some of the long runners are at tkts during the week as well like phantom etc. Would much rather hairspray stayed than made room for flashdance!

I saw it on tour, and don't think i would pay it a visit if it were to land in town.

I doubt it would pay its way in town - It certainly did very poorly at our theatre. A pity as I thought it was ok. Admittedly the story now has a cliche level that is visible from space but it's still better than several things that have made it into the West End. Yes Mr K I am talking about Dreamboats and Petticoats!

I was just thinking about this the other day, were as the decade of the 1980's brought us heavy big shows such as phantom and les mis, these days the shows that are most popular are not however gritty shows with depth and meaning, inface these are the shows that are closing a month into there runs, its the juke box muiscals and film adaptations that are the long runners of this decade. The tables have almost completely turned!

I know overall the Flashdance tour got very mixed reviews but i have to say i loved it! I saw it in Norwich at a sold out performance and it left me with a huge smile on my face when i left the theatre. I can't see it running for a long time in the west end but i really hope it will get there as i would love to see it again smile.gif

I think Hairspray is quite likely to be gone from the West End by the end of the year. Once the tour starts loads of people will be seeing it at their local theatre's rather than in London. Also Lastminute has loads of really good deals for Hairspray mid-week.

I think Hairspray will last a good while longer (as it should) if the producers do some clever casting as they did on Broadway. A big name as Edna or Link could get a lot of bums on seats.
