I have decided to create a thread where people can share their dream Les Mis cast with everyone else (apologies if this has already been done) as this topic seems to be taking over other threads.
Everyone seems to have a different view on the matter and it will be interesting to see what everyone thinks.

Here is mine, I am just going to list the principals but it is basically just the 2008/9 cast with couple of changes:

Jean Valjean- David Shannon
Javert- Earl Carpenter
Fantine- Ruthie Henshall
Eponine-Nancy Sullivan/Lea Salonga (obviously too old for the part now)
Cosette- Leanne Dobinson
Marius- Jon Robyns
Enjolras- David Thaxton
Thenardier- Jimmy Johnston
Madame Thenardier- Jackie Marks

If this is about who we would like to see as the current Dream Cast, as in "to be recorded for the 25th Anniversary Concert"... (ignoring all understudies as they are not likely to be cast)

Jean Valjean - David Shannon or JOJ
Javert - Earl Carpenter
Fantine - Ruthie Henshall
Eponine - Sabrina Aloueche
Cosette - Gina Beck
Marius - Hayden Tee
Enjolras - David Thaxton
Thénardier - Martin Ball
Madame Thénardier - Jackie Marks

Jean Valjean - John Owen-Jones
Javert - Philip Quast
Fantine - Joanna Ampil
Eponine - Rosalind James
Cosette - Judy Kuhn (obviously now too old for the part...)
Marius - Gareth Gates (yes, get over it.)

Yep, pretty much!! If we're talking recording an anniversary CD. However, I would kill to see Gina Beck and Sabrina Aloueche back at Cosette and Eponine.

Anthony Warlow and Lea Salonga strike me as a bit too old for those roles now...

I wouldn't have chosen this cast for a West End/tour run. In my book, though, you're only too old for a concert/recorded version of the show when you start to loose your voice (this being one of the reasons Colm isn't to be found in my list).

Look at Michael Maguire and Michael Ball (to give just two examples) - they worked perfectly well when the TAC was recorded but would have looked ridiculous in the West End/Broadway productions at the time. The only memer of the TAC cast who could (maybe contraversially) be described as too old is Colm - by this time he was not the singer he once was.. Interestingly JOJ was in the TAC choir, presumably thinking to himself, "I'm going to do this one day, and I'm going to do it better than the man I now see before me".
