So it is Sir Nick now is it? Jolly good...

and Sir Patrick. Lovely It seems you have to live in the States for 17 years and then come back and do something starry ..

These champagne Socialists just love an honour from the Queen. For some reason I'm reminded of Jim Broadbent's Oscar acceptance speech when he just pipped McKellen and said something like "I'm sorry to win this award because I know Ian wanted it so badly".

Bruce F doesn't deserve a knighthood. In fact he should have his CBE taken away, he's past it.

He needs to become famous on American TV in order to get a knighthood, TV fame in America ranks higher than in UK when they are dishing them out, likewise fame in American films rather than UK films. However, you are wasting your time pursuing a stage career in USA (Roger Rees, Natasha Richardson, etc.), you get no gong at all for that.

On the basis of TV fame I expect Craig Ferguson to be elevated to the House of Lords any time now (who would have thought his Bing Hitler shtick (albeit amusing) would have propelled him to such fame over there - and none at all here).

Of course Kevin Spacey will be handed the honorary knighthood in due course, they espcially like fawning over actual genuine Americans when it comes to handing out UK honours.

All good points, Jan. It's hard to tell if you have less respect for the UK honours system or champagne socialists! Happy New Year, anyway.
Ooh, that Bernadette Shaw - what a chatterbox!

Actually two awards I am happy to vote for! Certainly more than the time servers in the civil service/banking/ diplomatic corps etc!

Lol, I wish they would just knight Bruce, then there wouldn't be so many annoying snippets in newspapers about it every year. If they did he might leave Strictly though. unsure.gif
