Well this is a surprise! I am amazed no-one could find a musical vehicle for Lee Mead who must be known for his singing voice rather than his acting. Musical theatre fans of his will be disappointed he is not singing in this straight play.

Times must be hard for him to accept this role in another tatty Bill Kenwright tour ( and yes I have seen enough of them to know they are tatty ) of an old fashioned play adaptation of an Oscar Wilde story so popular with amateur societies and the old rep days!

No west end musical for him to star in then. Wasn't a revival of Barnum mentioned with him in the lead. How quickly these reality stars fade. I'm amazed he's not doing panto or is he?

Oh dear! I don't think I've ever seen quite so many people walking out/leaving early from a show. Much of the problem lies with the Royal Albert Hall's marketing of this event as it was quite obvious from overheard discussions in the (extremely long) interval that folk were expecting the usual Dame Edna show. I bought my tickets back in Feb and it was only yesterday morning that i twigged it was a rehash of an old show (which I'd already seen and banished to the recesses of my memory!) The new opening monologues to both halves were razor sharp and extremely funny but the rest should have died in the early 80s when it was first tried out. Some aspects evidently underrehearsed too. Just wanted it to be so much better than it was but didn't feel I could be rude enough and just leave thereby disturbing others ... or was that just rank cowardice? Do hope this is a temporary blip
