Friday Night is Music Night – Celebrates David Bowie

About the Show

With his unique style and his uncanny ability to reinvent himself in a career spanning five decades, David Bowie penned some of rock’n’roll’s most beloved classics. Celebrate this iconic artist with a special BBC Radio 2 Friday Night Is Music Night, featuring the foremost David Bowie interpreter and Broadway star Tony Vincent together with the BBC Concert Orchestra and full rock band under conductor Brent Havens. Among the songs to be performed are Space Oddity, Ziggy Stardust, Life On Mars, Let’s Dance, Heroes, Rebel Rebel, Changes, Golden Years and many more.

Bowie is the man who elevated his music to what can only be described as an art form. Driven by an entirely deeper dynamic than most pop artists, he inhabited a very special world of extraordinary sounds and endless vision. Unwilling to stay on the treadmill of rock legend and avoiding the descent into ever demeaning and decreasing circles of cliché, Bowie wrote and performed what he wanted, when he wanted.

This concert will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 2 in 2019, fifty years after Space Oddity was first released.
