Dance Double Bill – Yukiko Masui: Falling Family and Lea Tirabasso: The Ephemeral Life of an Octopus

About the Show

Falling Family is a new dance show by Yukiko Masui rooted in personal experience and exploring in movement those moments in family life that are simply not expressible in speech. It taps into the dark, conflicted, emotional space that cracks open when we encounter a loved one’s illness, mental breakdown or even death. The Ephemeral Life of an Octopus – questions the strangeness of having a body: vigorous, damaged, punctured, probed and animalistic. Based on the choreographer’s experience of cancer, the piece is inspired by the evolution of cancer cells and the lived experience of illness. At once scientific, philosophical and visceral, the piece looks at the dysfunction, chaos and vibrant life force of the body from within and without.
