Annabel is the ex-girlfriend and ex-student of Rufus. Sharp, mocking and flirtatious, she seems a fair match for Rufus’ pseudo intellectualism and arrogance. However, as the night draws on Annabel starts to question whether they’ve ever been a fair match. Beneath Rufus’ self-aggrandising speeches on the orgasm gap and intellectualisation of Annabel’s emotions is a subtle, misogynistic edge that is brought to the surface when one final sexual encounter takes a bizarre turn. A desperate Rufus questions if the punishment is fit for the crime and if, as two consenting adults, he can fall into the same category as a predator.
