Stride piano takes us back to the golden years of jazz, between Storyville and Harlem, more or less a century ago. Closely related to blues, ragtime and swing, stride cannot fail to fascinate even today with that rocky left hand that carves bass lines, the overwhelming rhythm, and the forays on the keyboard of authentic virtuosos such as Willie The Lion Smith, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller and many others. The exceptional 26 year old Mathis Picard is a French-Malagasy pianist, composer, producer and bandleader who lives in New York.
