About This Show

Marcus Roberts, hailed as the genius of the modern piano, returns to the UK with his trio: critically-acclaimed drummer Jason Marsalis, who has performed with Roberts since 1995, and bassist Roland Guerin, widely renowned for his rich and soulful sound. They will be joined by the inimitable Wycliffe Gordon, named in 2021 by the Jazz Journalists Association as Trombonist of the Year for the record-breaking 14th time. Marcus Roberts has been blind since the age of five. His music is rooted in traditional jazz in the idiom of Fats Waller and Jelly Roll Morton. With his trio and Wycliffe Gordon, he will perform a showcase of the development of the Blues from Stride to Gershwin.
